No special techniques, used only paintbrush to paint this but for the hair, I created my own hairbrushes and and set the fade size opacity on

And that's actually a great idea for the hair, since it tends to get blurry on me. When you say paintbrush, though, did you use the airbrush or a hard edged one?

I recently figured out a way to color that works for me using the hard edged brush on a lowered opacity. It gives a watercolor type effect, and if repeated, becomes quite smooth and nice looking.

Anyway, nice job again, and I think you've inspired me to do a portrait. (I haven't done one in a LONGGGG time, because I feel like I'm cheating when I use reference pics )
